So August 29, was the welcome party for the Funky Buddha Imperial Club at the brewery in Oakland Park, Florida. The special guest of the party is a Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Brown Ale with Blueberry, Cinnamon & Vanilla aptly named Zed’s Dead. Seemingly a nod to the motorcycle owner in the film Pulp Fiction based on the blueberry pancakes in the ingredients.
So this is the first release for this club and it was crafted exclusively for Imperial Club members. The opening event was really good from an organizational perspective. The member glasses being passed out when you enter the private room, plenty of help behind the bar so the wait for a delicious beverage was short, and a nice array of small snacks for us to nosh on while we drank Zed’s dead.
In attendance I think were well over 100 of the club members, the T-shirts highlighting membership are first class and more importantly, the opening night mixer had a bunch of other beers for us to consume including one of my non IPA personal favorites, S’more to Love which is an imperial porter.
The Funky Buddha has some great specials this Labor Day weekend and as we all prepare for Hurricane Dorian, we need to think about how to properly stock our coolers in case of a major storm impact. If you don’t have cash, cold beer is a great alternative currency during a crisis. Freezing ziplock bags of water now to stuff in my coolers in the event of prolonged power outages.
Lastly to the staff at the Funky Buddha, great job last night and stay safe during the storm.
Till next time, enjoy a craft beer adventure of your own.
